Something's Fresh In Denmark

The Danes are happy. Happiest people in Europe (maybe in the world). Why is this? I want to go to Denmark to find out. Since Erik, Sasha, and Lisa have been to Denmark, perhaps they can shed some light on the reasons for Danish contentedness.

Above is a happiness survey trend chart for European countries. Click on it for the paper. The Dutch also appear to be quite happy. The Mediterranean countries tend to be less happy than the Germanic countries. Why is this so? Very contrary to popular opinion in the US.

Speaking of the Danes, I really like the song "Special" by the Danish bad Mew. Check it out. I think Chiara would like it, and the rest of you probably would as well.

Close Call

Richard Hammond from Top Gear almost killed himself in a 450 km/hr crash near York several months ago while trying to best the world's land speed record . Good news is: he's expected to fully recover and despite the efforts of many Brittish ninnies and ne'er-do-wells, Top Gear goes on!

And, for the memories: A Mini ski-jump video.

Get A Haircut, and Get A Real Job

I'm moving to the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia. This is where I went for that week in mid-June. I will be working in Philly for 6 months before I am transfered somewhere else in the US. Whoopie!

A Big Hello and Howdy-do from York

Hello everyone! Sorry to be so silent. I have had the term from hell! It didn't help that I spent a huge, huge percentage of this term learning about fields. Not cool or interesting fields. Just different types of plow marks. I also learned that there are archaeologists that exclusively study hedges. They actually spend their entire careers just going around the UK counting the number of hedges in each row. Seriously!
My finals were yesterday, so I can finally relax a bit. I'm going back to the States this weekend. Yeah! I am eating the biggest hamburger I can find as soon as I get back. With onion rings. And fries. And a milkshake. And avocado. Mmmmm....
Hope everyone is doing well and having a nice holiday season!

This is mainly for Gildas, who showed me all the anti-American sentiment french puppets have. The Daily Show takes on france 24, the new 24 hour french news channel.

Update 2 return of the jedi

Hey everyone I just wanted to share a copy of a picture Dave posted on facebook. It's just the perfect example of house spirit. I wonder what we're singing... I look pretty drunk... yippy. My life right now is swell... I am freaking out over masters applications and really need someone to look over my very short project proposal and someone else to tell me 'it will be ok, you'll get in' and 40,000$, but other than that I'm just dandy.

Paco

It's been a while since you all heard of me, but I am still alive. Don't worry. I brought Paco to Utrecht last monday. He stayed with my parents this summer and autumn, but they did not take care of him enough. He was overwatered and so I took him with me and I hope he will recover quickly. I did not take him to my Utrecht home, but to the History Students room. I will take care of him, I, and others, will talk to him. He'll be fine.
I am also doing quite well. I started training on my bike again, although the weather is dreadful at the moment, it is like living in an extremely cold rain forest. (without all the trees) Terrible.
But I am extremely busy at the same time, with my studies, the History Association, cycling and all. That's why I didn't post for such a long time.
I am actually that busy that I still did not check what's in Dave's suitcase at my parent's. He left it with me because he couldn't carry it around Europe, but decided to visit Holland only on his way into Europe, and not on his way out. Dave, I'll look into it soon, and I will probably send it to you.
How is the rest of you doing?

Good News

I had a phone interview with a company this week and it has led to an in-person interview two weeks from now. It's for an underwriting job that would have me placed temporarily in either Chicago or another major city in January and after half a year or so transfered to somewhere else in the country. I feel confident about my prospects... so before I know it I may be saying, "So long, Ohio!"
