Ouse is flooding yet again

Todays 'big picture' on the bbc news website. The caption reads 'Two men watch from a window as flood water is pumped out of the Lowther public house on the banks of the River Ouse in York.'

Yikes! And to think England was having a rather nasty drought last year.

The creek running in front of my house is flooding as well. Rainiest winter I can ever remember in Ohio. If it were only 3 degrees cooler we'd be buried in snow up to our eyeballs.

Yeah, it's very bad here right now. We've had massive winds, too. Tesco even lost its roof.

the south of england has the hosepipe ban. Doesn't look like the north of England has any problems with drought. Do you guys recognise that pub? I can totaly remember it.

I think I know which one that is. Doesn't it have flood doors?

Nice picture, we are experiencing terrible wind and rain as well. Last week I was cycling with the wind coming from behind and I reached (after I put some effort in) 70k/h or 47mph... Incredible.

I think I remember the pub as well, it's the one next to the small pub under the stairs, the 'Kings Head'.

I thought it was the 'Kings Arms' next to the steps?

I can rememeber perfectly the pub..but not the name!! I have it at the peak of my tongue!! :-DD
Can i say that?!..anyway, I'm sure it's not King Arms....aaaaah! I remember it now! It's "The Lowther"
yes yes yes! That was the name!
I read York press this morning and now the situation is better but another flooding is arriving next week..Poor York!

Poor Lisa!

Yes (thank you Sasha). Poor me!

Winds got up to around 99 mph yesterday. Fortunately I only had to walk around the corner, but a classmate of mine was blown into oncoming traffic (the car stopped, so luckily she's okay) and another one was thrown onto her back by a gust (also okay). A third guy from my class barely avoided getting hit by a roof. What is with our weather?

does it seem funny to anyone that the post with the longest comments is about weather? How very English of us all.

It's not just English though, the dutch had very bad weather as well and are talking about it a lot. Last thursday a hoisting crane fell on and through the roof of a university building, I was blown from the cycle path onto the road, trees were tumbling everywhere and roofs were flying by...

Sounds very Wizard of Oz. I have seen pictures though. Amazingly big tree trunks falling on cars and realy big waves. So hard to picture when it's clear and sunny here.
